Save Your Trees From Gypsy Moth Caterpillars.

Call Ron Parrow of From the Roots Up for Gypsy Moth Control Canterbury CT, Hampton CT, Scotland CT. Well, it’s spring and the topic of the day seems to be gypsy moth caterpillar control! The gypsy moth larvae in the form of the spiny caterpillars hatched at the end of April in the Windham County area of Connecticut. At first they appeared as tiny black specs out in force – they cover everything!  The gypsy moth infestation is a particularly bad for Connecticut. As they grow, the gypsy moth caterpillars will begin to feed on your leafy trees. It is going to be a tough season for your hardwoods. Oak, maple, apple, birch, poplar, willow, and alder are most frequently attacked. Older caterpillars will also attack evergreens like pines and spruces.

Gypsy moth devastation of our Connecticut forests promises to be extensive this year.  All the trees will be systematically defoliated. The caterpillars cover houses and sidewalks and their droppings rain down from the treetops. When these hungry larvae feed on your deciduous trees, they weaken the trees’ ability to turn sunlight into nourishment. A complete defoliation severely weakens the trees, and can leave them vulnerable to attack by other pests.

The caterpillars seem to ‘fly’ through the air, transported on silken thread from one place to another. The long hairy spicules help keep the larvae aloft, and they may be transported for miles in storms. The eggs of the gypsy moths are laid on dead wood. Firewood is a vector for the spread of the gypsy moth eggs. These pesky larvae will climb up anything that gets in their way in search of a meal: telephone poles, houses, cars and people! Is it too late to stop these creatures from spreading? Ron Parrow can answer this and all questions about gypsy moth control.
